Hello! My name Nobody-InHere. Thank you for trying my game! I look forward to seeing you all play it and receive feedback!
What is HopeSworn
So, a brief introduction to what HopeSworn is: HopeSworn is a Magical Girl themed Solo RPG, in which you play the last surviving member of a Magical Girl after a climatic battle against the forces of the Void. It is a hack for Ironsworn, and the Pre-Alpha version was developed for the Ironsworn Jam 2023.
Why Make a Magical Girl game based on IronSworn?
Because it’s fun! Because I like Magical Girls, and RPG, and I find the lack of Magical Girl TTRPG… disturbing. Therefore, I took it upon myself to make the kind of game I would like to play. What I really like about IronSworn is that you are also able to play it alone, and is very narrative focused, which is great for expressing what I want the game to be: A game about loneliness, hope, and making connections with the people around you.

- Want a contemporary Urban Fantasy setting
- Want to Play as magical girls
- Want to play a game based in anime, an Mahou Shojo Anime specifically
- Want to deal with themes of loss and hope
- You enjoyed games with themes like “Princess, the Hopeful”, fiction first games like “Blades in the Dark” and games with social mechanics, like “Masks: A New generation”
What’s done and what I’ll be doing
What I released for the Jam was, honestly, a Mess. So, here’s a list of things i want to be fixing/doing for the actual final draft, in no particular order:
- Tighten the World’s Assumptions and make them narrower in scope. Include starting promises and debilities.
- Develop the Void and it’s minions into a toolkit the player can use to create various monsters and interesting antagonists.
- Create the starting Promises for each Archetype and Role.
- Tighten the descriptions of each Archetype and Role. Redefine them in a way that interact with a mechanic or move.
- Clean up the definition and effects of the Action Moves
- Clean up the definition and effects of the Resist Moves
- Create a set of 3-5 Moves to move the story along, so the player never stagnates.
- Refine the Suffer Moves
- Polish the Archetype Moves in a way that interact more directly with the mechanics of the game.
- Add the Black (Defeatist, Cynic) and White (Blank, Fatalist) archetypes
- Polish the Roles and add more role moves
- Add in Spells and Assets
- Create the male, female, agender name tables.
- Create the Last name table
- Create setting Table
- Create Special dates / occasion table
- Add Action and Theme Table
- Finish the MG group theme table
The plan is to update biweekly, but definitely at least once a month, giving updates on what was done, my thoughts on the process and what the next steps are. I am being optimistic and setting my Deadline by September 13, 2023 for the full release of the game, so wish me luck!
Lastly, while HopeSworn is going to be 100% free for download, I will be developing a paid supplement that will include:
- Sample Void Minions, Agents, and Generals.
- Conflict generator
- A Plot generator for Episodes, Seasons and Arcs
- A Calendar System to keep track of time
- An abstract Symbol collection, for those that want prompts to be a little more freeform.
- Several Oracles, from Events that could be happening, to special dates, and more!
